How to Keep Your Account Safe

Discover Card provides several safety mechanisms to protect your Account. You can enhance your online safety by keeping your account numbers and passwords private, by guarding your other financial information and by following these suggestions.

Account Protection Tools

We offer multiple account protection tools to help keep your information—and your identity—safe. Fraud Alerts offer advanced early warning that helps protect you from unauthorized account activity.

Sign the Back of Your Card

It's easier for most thieves to create a fake ID than it is to copy your handwriting. So signing your card is safer than writing "See ID".

Use the Features on the Back of Your Discover Card

The CID number on the back of your card helps online or catalog merchants verify that you, the actual cardholder, are placing the order.

Review your Financial Statements Regularly

Check your credit card and bank statements each month for any suspicious activity. Request and check your credit report at least once a year for mistakes or fraudulent use. If you come across any suspicious activity on your accounts, contact your financial institution immediately. If you notice suspicious activity on your Discover Card account, call 1-800-DISCOVER (1-800-347-2683) immediately.

Safe Account Center Use

Your User ID and Password

To access the Account Center, you need to create a user ID and password. To help ensure that only you can view your account information:

• Never reveal your password to anyone
• Keep your password secret
• Change your password periodically
• Review your contact information
